Monika Jensen is president of Monika Jensen Productions.
Calgary’s Business: As an entrepreneur, you have several businesses. Can you describe what each one is?
Jensen: Monika Jensen Productions. This company is me wrapped up in a package, the ‘brand’ of Monika Jensen. Its focus is on my passions of the arts in all creative avenues; painting, modelling and film production. My artwork has had much success in both publications and art exhibitions globally. As I always say, “There is no collection without a Jensen.” After my opportunity as the exclusive artist at the Oscars in L.A., it also opened doors for modelling and becoming a somewhat TV personality with over one million views on TLC’s Say Yes To The Dress.

CB: What are the keys to success for an entrepreneur?
Jensen: I think the first and most important key to success for any entrepreneur in any field they pursue is to never quit. Every entrepreneur I know has one trait in common, they keep focused and keep moving forward with their vision overcoming rejection and obstacles in their way for success. Be a doer! A dream will not come to fruition on its own, take your first steps to action to make it happen.
CB: What are the key challenges these days for an entrepreneur like yourself?
Jensen: Self-motivation and finding a work/family balance is key. We have all heard the saying “Work hard and play hard,” but how many of us find that healthy balance? Having family support, for me, is a must. They encourage me in everything I do, which in turn motivates me to do my best and try things that I might not have tried otherwise.
Calgary’s Business: What do you like about being an entrepreneur?
Jensen: What’s not to like? I’m the boss! Enough said. Okay, besides that … success doesn’t come overnight but it’s a really good feeling when you accomplish a goal. I see the entrepreneurial spirit in both my children, who are now at the age where they want to explore new avenues and encourage them to pursue their own businesses.
CB:What advice would you give to a person thinking of setting up their own business?
Jensen: Go for it! Don’t fear failure as it is a learning process, and this will only make you grow wiser on your next endeavour. Acknowledge your successes and your failures to better yourself. Conquer your fear! Yes, it’s scary at first but satisfying after. Becoming an entrepreneur is a step to understanding yourself, growing in knowledge, spirit and mind.
